What is Ketamine Assisted Therapy?
Ketamine is a type of dissociative anesthetic that has been used for over five decades to treat patients who have depression, immense levels of anxiety, or fear. The medication works by relaxing chandelier cells in your brain, which controls when cells fire and pass messages on to other neurons. This enables your brain to dissociate from your physical and emotional responses to triggers and helps you forge new, healthier neural pathways in your brain.
What Conditions Does Ketamine Assist With?
- Major depression
- Severe anxiety
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Bipolar Depression

FAQs
To determine your candidacy for treatment, you can schedule a visit to MediZen Institute to be evaluated by our medical professionals. During a consultation with one of our wellness CNPs, we’ll learn about you and your condition to determine if you’re eligible. The consultation fee is $275.
Psychedelics can generate powerful experiences, with deeply moving encounters. Ketamine, however, creates a more general uplifting experience that lightens emotional burdens and enables you to disconnect from your surroundings.
We do not require a referral for ketamine assisted therapy, though you will be evaluated by a member of the MediZen medical team prior to your approval for treatment.
Patients will undergo a consultation with one of our medical providers prior to any treatment. Typically, ketamine therapy is conducted once or twice per week for several weeks. Each session lasts several hours as the patient receives intramuscular injections by our certified medical staff. Ketamine therapy rooms are intentionally private and comfortable and are designed to have minimal external stimuli.
Patients are required to have transportation plans after therapy as they may experience some mild disorientation. We advise that you clear your day of your normal activities so you can reintegrate and work through your emotional process. This reintegration is essential for your wellbeing, and we’ll provide you with resources for continued support between and after your sessions.
We administer ketamine in subanesthetic doses that are monitored by qualified medical professionals. Activating the chandelier cells of the brain helps you stop obsessing over thoughts, feelings, or emotions so that you can better process your mood and mental state.
Ketamine therapy is not permitted for women who are pregnant, nursing, or actively trying to get pregnant. We also prohibit the treatment for clients who are undergoing cancer treatment unless they are specifically recommended and directly referred by their oncologist for cancer-related depression. We do not recommend ketamine therapy for individuals who live or work in unstable environments or are actively engaged in unsafe relationships, both physically and mentally.
The effects of treatment can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. After a series of treatments, some clients may remain symptom-free for an extended period of time. Booster treatments can also be administered as needed, and the frequency in which you’ll need them is typically determined by you, your mental health provider, and our medical providers.
The cost per treatment is $250. There is a $275 consultation fee to begin the process.
Most insurance does not cover ketamine assisted therapy, but we do have financing plans available.
