Post-Treatment Care and Instructions
To minimize the risk of possible side effects and complications, please consider each point under your specific treatment. Your outcomes and the duration of your treatment results will vary due to several factors, including but not limited to age, sex, tissue conditions, lifestyle, general health, and sun exposure. Ensure you thoroughly complete your medical history beforehand and speak to your provider if you have any questions or concerns, making sure to follow all instructions. If you have questions about aftercare, please speak to your provider for advice.
Please note that those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have open sores in the treatment area do not qualify as candidates for services.
General Post-Treatment Guidelines
Two Days Post-Treatment
- Do not undergo any exercise or activity that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure.
Two Weeks Post-Treatment
- Avoid skincare with active ingredients including but not limited to retinol, Retin-A and other vitamin A derivatives, Lotion P50, tretinoin, and hydroquinone.
- Wait two weeks for any types of facials after injections (meaning neuromodulators, fillers, and biostimulators).
Four Weeks Post-Treatment
- Avoid spray tanning and sun exposure.
- Avoid dental work if treated with dermal fillers.
- Space laser treatments and injectables at least four weeks apart.
Cosmetic Injectables and PDO Thread Guidelines
Your results will take four to 14 days to appear. Bruising and swelling may be apparent, with Sculptra taking longer to see results. Consult your provider with any questions and concerns and ensure you follow the guidelines below for optimal results:
- Avoid vitamin A-based skincare products like retinol for two weeks after your appointment.
- It is recommended that clients wait at least a week post-treatment to fly. Changes in cabin pressure can precipitate the worsening of any swelling or bruising.
- Avoid pressure on treated areas for the first few days post treatment. Sleep on your back and slightly elevated.
- Avoid dental work (including standard teeth cleaning) at least one month following treatment.
- Do NOT manipulate the treated area following treatment. Don’t touch the injection sites for twelve hours immediately following treatment – this reduces the risk of infection transmitted from hands or movement of the product into unwanted muscles.
- Avoid significant movement or massaging of the treated area unless otherwise instructed by the provider. If a small lump occurs after filler treatment, that is after the initial 24 hours period, contact your provider.
- Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your neurotoxin treatment — this will prevent the product from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing drooping eyelids.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment (or longer depending on the pre-treatment instructions).
- Makeup may be worn 24 hours after treatment in treated areas. Check with your provider to clarify your makeup type and the specific treatment.
- If you have swelling you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes every hour, especially if it is excessive.
- Do not plan facial treatments, facials, facial waxing, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for two weeks after treatment.
- Do not plan Laser/IPL or energy-based facial treatments for six weeks after treatment.
- Studies show that smoking doesn’t immediately undo the benefits of a BOTOX treatment, but it will have an adverse impact over time, and tends to shorten the positive effects. If there is any bruising from the treatment, it may take longer to heal if you continue to smoke.
Laser Treatment Guidelines
Follow the guidelines after treatment to ensure best results:
- After laser treatments, do NOT receive facial treatments or microdermabrasion for at least four weeks.
- In the treatment areas, avoid dermal fillers and/or neurotoxin for at least four weeks afterward.
- Avoid neurotoxins for at least two weeks after treatment.
- Do not use the following products two weeks before and two weeks after your treatment: Retin-A, Retinoids, or similar vitamin A compounds, harsh scrubs or exfoliating products, and bleaching creams. Check with your provider for further instructions regarding your specific laser treatment.
- Avoid tanning, spray-tanning, and sun exposure four weeks for four weeks after treatment.
- Do not wax two weeks before and two weeks after treatment.
- After laser hair removal, the treated hair may not shed immediately. Please be reassured that the hair will eventually shed. Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur.
- After laser hair removal, do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis, or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area for 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. You may shave.
- Check with your provider if you plan to go for a swim or use a hot tub or sauna after your treatment.
- Do not pick or scratch the treated area for 14 days post treatment.
- Makeup may be worn 24 hours after treatment in treated areas. Check with your provider to clarify your makeup type and the specific laser treatment.
